Shallow Channel Depths – USE 311 TO REPORT!

We have had many reports from homeowners regarding shallow channels in various locations in the harbor in Mandalay. These reports have been shared with the city in seawall team meetings and other correspondence.

Please watch tide charts and know that extreme high tides match extreme low tides – watch your props and dock bow in!

We need your help!

In conversations with Special Districts and Public Works we have agreed to encourage homeowners to use 311 to report areas of concern. These reports will hopefully facilitate progress on establishing a plan for Dredging .

Comments will not automatically appear when you post them here I do not log in every day to see if someone left a comment, and all comments must be approved before going live on this page.
Otherwise it would fill up with spam for pharmaceuticals and other unintelligible, unwanted information.

Background Information

The volunteers who meet with the city to understand and provide input on how our limited Waterways 1 Assessment funds are allocated had some struggles in the past with getting the attention of the former Special Districts Manager in allocating funds and establishing a reserve for dredging. That manager is no longer employed by the city. The current Special Districts Manager, Anthony Miller, has been working with us and Public Works to address the needs.

NOTES ABOUT TIMELINE FOR DREDGING

Requests to 311 create a traceable record of reports. These reports will be provided to Public Works to establish a base understanding of hot spots for special attention during the SURVEY that would be required to set the standards for issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP).

There are several steps that must be completed prior to dredging beginning.
These include preliminary funding for the survey and engineering report, sample studies to apply for disposal of dredged materials. The permits must all be approved by the California Coastal Commission, the Army Corp of Engineers and the Waterboard. Funding must be available and approved by the City Council.
