DREDGING NEEDS – USE 311 TO REPORT!

We have had many reports from homeowners regarding the needs for Dredging in various locations in the harbor in Mandalay. These reports have been shared with the city in seawall team meetings and other correspondence.

Please watch tide charts and know that extreme high tide match extreme low tides – watch your props and dock bow in!

Background

The volunteers who meet with the city to understand and provide input on how our meager Waterways 1 Assessment funds are allocated had some struggles in the past with getting the attention of the former Special Districts Manager in allocating funds and establishing a reserve for dredging. That manager is no longer employed by the city. The current Special Districts Manager, Anthony Miller, has been working with us and Public Works to address the needs.

Where has all the Money Gone

We need your help!

In order to facilitate progress on establishing a plan for Dredging we need homeowners to be involved in reporting!
In conversations with Special Districts and Public Works we have agreed to encourage homeowners to use 311 to report areas of concern.

WHY 311

YOUR INVOLVEMENT MAKES THIS MORE COST EFFECTIVE!

You can also send emails and images to currents@channelislandsca.com
PLEASE NOTE: Comments must be approved before going live on this page.
Otherwise it would fill up with spam for pharmaceuticals and other unintelligible, unwanted information.
This site and the email address above and the eblast system we use to send updates are maintained by a volunteer  so please don’t expect an instant response!

TIMELINE FOR DREDGING

There are several steps that must be completed prior to work beginning.
These include preliminary funding for the survey and engineering report, sample studies to apply for disposal of dredged materials. The permits must all be approved by the California Coastal Commission, the Army Corp of Engineers and the Waterboard. Funding must be available and approved by the City Council.

YOUR VOICE AND YOUR PARTICIPATION ARE VITAL!

HARBOR DEBRIS – USE 311

UPDATE: 5/13/25  Debris clean-up may be scheduled soon due to reports and high winds – unsure of scope or location.
BUT PLEASE REPORT WHAT YOU SEE
and clean up what you are able!

We have had many reports from homeowners requesting updates on Debris Removal in Mandalay. These reports have been shared with the city in seawall team meetings and other correspondence.

  • The City has contracted an on call service for Debris Removal
(our assessment funds to be used to pay for this service so report wisely)
  • Shopping Carts, large Palm fronds, Large items  following winds
  • Trash and debris that is more than homeowners & boaters can remove.

We can cut costs by lending a hand!

We can all help cut expenses by scooping out what we can!
Watch your trash bins on windy days!
Always tie down items on your deck, dock and boat and remove anything that can blow away.
PLEASE dispose of all plastic bags, disposable cups, plates, bottles, ice bags and materials before they blow away!

Scoop and place plant matter and algae in the green barrel and trash in your trash bin!
If you do not have a green barrel ask your neighbors if you can use theirs!

In conversations with Special Districts and Public Works we have agreed to encourage homeowners to use 311 to report areas of concern.
